Oakland windsurfer saved off Sonoma coast

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies said they were able to rescue an East
Bay man blown out to sea Monday afternoon with help from a helicopter
and paramedic.

I dont get it....if he was between Stinson and Bolinas, what were the
Sonoma Co. sherrif doing there? And it just says he was "sitting" on
his surfboard. No mention of conditions, wind speed, wave height, shark
population.

So they hoist him in, and tell him to be more careful. Gee thanks,
what about my gear?

Re: Oakland windsurfer saved off Sonoma coast

I don't know the particulars, but heard about this at Berkeley
yesterday....
CG don't care about your board or rig.
Winds up above Stinson were light, Northerlies in the gusty 5-20mph
range, hard to windsurf in the PMs, but still doable on kites.
None of the kiters there saw him.
Just shows the importance of sailing with uphaulable EQ. Just your
body weight plus 10 liters, at the minimum.
If you get in trouble, consider tossing your sail. You can save the
mast and tow the boom.
The ocean is a tough place for beginners, even in a protected spot
like Seadrift.

"...blown out to sea Monday afternoon with help from a helicopter..."

I hope they helped him get back afterwards ;)
