101 greatest rock albums

In 2004 , the city of Memphis in Tennessee USA declared 1954 the date
of birth of rock n roll. That 's the year when Elvis Presley recorded
"That's allright Mama" for the Sun label . So rock n roll and it's
offshoot rock are 50 years old. This event was celebrated by radio
stations all over the world , including Radio 101. Through it's
programmes "Fuzzbox" and "Rockfile2" , Radio 101 asked listeners to
vote for the Top 20 Alltime Rock Albums.A panel of experts which
included TV personalities Lou Bondi and Kevin Drake and Radio 101
Broadcasters Nigel Camilleri , William Cauchi , George Galea and Eric
Montfort were invited to submit lists of the Top 101 Alltime Rock
Albums. Radio 101 boss Noel Mallia was entrusted with adding up all the
votes and compiling the final list of 101 albums. A competition that
awarded two tickets to a Mark Knopfler concert at the Royal Albert Hall
plus flights and accomodation ( kindly donated by Eurotours) was won by
listener Alex Cutajar from Attard.

In 1996, The Jimi Hendrix Experience topped the poll with "Are you
experienced'. This time around the Fab Four notched up the most points
and finished in first place with their 1967 groundbreaking album "Sgt
Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". The Beatles also placed third and
fifth with "Revolver" and "The Beatles" (aka as the White Album).

A special edition of Rockfile 2 featuring tracks from all 101 albums on
the final list will be broadcast on Saturday 24th September from 12.30
hours onwards. Hosted by Noel Mallia and Nigel Camilleri with guests
George Galea and William Cauchi.
