article - Mao Asada comes home to train

With the opening last year of a high-level rink near her
hometown, teen figure skating star Mao Asada has decided
she no longer needs to train in the United States.

Asada, 17, coming off a victory in the Four Continents
meet in Goyang, South Korea, will now train at the Chukyo
University rink in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture.

The rink, opened in May 2007, is the
government-designated National Training Center and was
where Asada prepared for last year's national
championships.

The lack of a proper facility led Asada, the 2007 world
silver medalist, to head to the United States in 2006,
from which time she has been coached by Russian Rafael
Arutunian, who did not accompany her to the Four
Continents meet.

Asada has also said she wants to be based in a place
closer to her family. She is undecided about plans for a
new coach.
