One Day Convention Advice Wiki (UK)

Hi All,

Just letting you know there is a UK based wiki for advice on putting on a
one or two day convention:

http://tinyurl.com/2rk3vm

We call it Wondawiki for short. Its maintained by Nottingham Juggling Club
and payed for out of BJC2007 surplus funds.

I guess there is no reason why an internationl section couldn't be added for
advice in specific no UK countries. Please create a subpage and link to do
this.

Its open for everyone to read and contribute, but is aimed mainly for
previous organisers to pass on their advice to new organisers.
So please treat it with respect and dont write in it if you havn't got
organising experience.

If you are thinking of organising a larger convention then contact me for
further advice and links.
Cheers, Peachi

Or http://www.thebjc.org/onedayers/wikiif you want a url that says
where it's going.

The url really isn't that long Peachi! Why use tinyurl?

How long should a url be before it needs tinying?

78 characters is generally considered a reasonable limit, as that's
traditionally the line length for wordwrapping on usenet/email clients.

Rule of thumb though, cut and paste the url into the "compose" window
of whatever it is you're using to post, and if the url is longer than
any of the lines in your message, it's too long.

The problems with tinyurls are:

1 - They're not in the slightest bit memorable

2 - They give you no clue as to where they point. One of the following
tinyurls points to goatse one of them points to tubgirl and one
of them points to a picture of a kitten. Can you tell them apart?

http://tinyurl.com/2ee2kl
http://tinyurl.com/27ecsa
http://tinyurl.com/2roqqj

3 - Tinyurl are an evil corporate machine who use their url shortening
service to track every link, where it's clicked from, where it goes,
how popular that link is - and use it to sell information to targeted
advertisers.

If you *must* use tinyurl, please post the original link as well, possibly
in a footnote so that people have a choice.

Why don't you just put it for free in worldwide wiki?
