Montreal fest HLGCB

Highs

Krista is my #1 high of course.
Winning my wresting match.
Juggling with Michael once again, always awesome.
The show was quite awesome (except for the part in my banes), especially
Michael's acts which both rocked, Yohan and Raph, the guy who did crazy
stuff with red balls, Ewan and Cate's act rocked too.
Met some great peoples and saw the great peoples I already knew, you know
who you are.

Lows

Weather sucked.
The NYC crew had an horrible weekend because of bunch of bad lucks.
Games starting so late.
The poutine I made Krista taste wasn't good at all sadly.
Sound skiped sometimes during the show.

Goals

Juggle, check.
Win a game, check. (Won the 2 5 balls endurance, 6 balls, 5,6 and 7 rings)
See Krista, check.

Crushes

Kristaaaaa!
Michael!

Banes

I don't like clowns so much.
Getting a gum glued on my short form sitting on the gym's floor during
renegade...

I throw the balls on my chest and they roll on my arms back into my hands,
a fountain on the chest.

Highs:
Emmanuel is my #1 high, of course.
Ben & Jerry's kiwi strawberry thing
Both nights were fun, even though not much sleep was had.
Emmanuel getting gum on his shorts. It was really funny.
Legal drinking (thanks, Sean)
I would list which acts I liked best, but Emmanuel already did that for me.
Huge shipment of pop tarts which managed to put a smile on my mom's face
(again, thanks Sean)

Lows:
Losing my wrestling match, though I'm confident I'll win next time.
Poutine. It doesn't matter where it's from, I just won't like it.
Too many clowns for my taste.
Not getting help when it was needed most, and being jerked around in the
process.

Crush:
Emmanuel for....everything (bringing stuff to sleep in the gym, letting me
stay over at his house,
taking me out on Saturday, being awesome, etc.)
Melissa for being such a sweetie when she got sucked into the whirling
vortex of unfortunate events
that had befallen the NYC crew

Goal:
Not eat poutine (Failed)
See Emmanuel (Check)

Bane:
Everything that involved travel by car. It was nightmarish. I mean, talk
about Murphy's law. I don't
think I've ever had so many technical difficulties on a road trip. An
experience I would prefer never to
repeat. As soon as we tried to cross into Canada (emphasis on tried,
thanks for rejecting us, border
patrol!) it was a continuous string of truly terrible luck.

I think that about covers everything.

Re: Montreal fest HLGCB

Highs:
Having the best three-day long birthday party of my life.
Getting to see so many great people all in one place.
Confirmation that we did a good job with Turbo Fest.
Michael Karas' numbers in the show.
Edd, Laura, and Joe singing to me over the phone.

Lows:
Sky's border problems.
Paris' car problems.
Festival being sort of sub-par in terms of organization.
Festival ending.

Goal:
To juggle a lot and have a break from here... check.
Also, it so wasn't a goal of mine, but flashing five clubs on my birthday,
not a terrible event in my life.

Crush:
As always, only on impossible people.

Bane:
Old-style clowning.
Bad clowns.

I see, thanks for the explanation.
Neat.

It is really neat to see. (6x,4)* looks particularly wild. To do stuff
like this, I would first need to grow a
chest, but Emmanuel has that nicely sorted.

Haha, I'm pretty sure you could do the 5 balls cascade Greg, you would
need to get russians tho!

Re: Montreal fest HLGCB

= Highs =

Watching my son Tristan do his 1, 2 and 3 ball routine in the open stage,
and then win a unicycle when the applause-o-meter rated him best act of
the night. (That's our second free unicycle in six weeks, in case you're
keeping track.) Yes, he was probably helped by the "cute twelve year-old
factor", but his act was good.

Getting to hang out with my friends Mark and Steve from Ottawa, and
especially with Mark's twin eleven-year-old boys Devon and Rigel. Devon
has become a juggling maniac: at New Years his four balls was firming up
and he was flashing five; at this fest he was getting comfortable runs of
fifty catches with five.

Watching Tristan, Devon, Rigel, Joey and Richard juggle torches for the
first time on Friday night.

Being able to grab a beer in the gym, any time I felt like it. Oh, and the
roasted red pepper hummus baguette sandwich with extra tomatoes --- boy
was that good.

= Lows =

Seeing how much trouble cars and border guards managed to cause Sky,
Krista and Paris. No fun no fair. Not getting to spend much time with Sky
as a result.

Having to leave a bit early Sunday and missing the games. I'm sure I would
have won five club endurance this year.... Twelve catches should be more
than enough, shouldn't it?

= Goal =

Do a heap of club passing. Failed. Deliver "Juggling Kung Fu Master"
(quite possibly the worst movie ever made) to Sean. Check. Avoid watching
Juggling Kung Fu Master. Check.

= Crush =

Cate. Her hand balance routine is so much more amazing than when I last
saw it back in October, and there is a genuinely nice person hiding under
that hard-edged gritty exterior. Plus, and I'll probably regret saying
this, she may well be even hotter than Warren.

= Banes =

Name starts with a "D". Thinks he's funny and talented. Isn't. If you've
been to any Montreal Fest in the last several years, you'll know exactly
who I'm talking about.

General disorganization. Normally the Montreal Fest runs like a smoothly
ticking watch (hamsters racing madly under the surface to keep the
clockwork running, but smooth nonetheless). This year things had a much
more slap-dash, improvised feel to them --- there was no one running the
canteen at breakfast time, there wasn't much of a schedule, I was never
sure when workshops or other activities were running, and I'm sure I
missed some stuff I would have liked to have seen.

= Surprises =

Bumping into Keith and Stephanie from Bindlestiff on the way back from
dinner on Saturday night. I hadn't seen Keith in a couple of years, hadn't
seen Stephanie for at least four, and had no idea they were going to be at
the fest. I wish they'd been able to stay longer.

Seeing Gonzalo in the gym. I'd thought he was still back in Peru sorting
out immigration stuff, but it turns out he landed another circus job and
managed to come back.

Seeing someone wearing an original, Cafe Press, "Take Back The IJA" shirt
in the gym. I don't think we sold more than 25 of that version, and I have
one of them stashed in my dresser.

= Thanks =

To Francis for running a really well constructed technique workshop on
Sunday afternoon. I missed most of it, but Devon thought it was the best
thing ever. Francis: I think you're his hero.

To Don Lewis for once again housing me and other bits of the Kingston
crew, for tracking down someone willing to translate the Green Club
Project booklet into Spanish (coming soon....), and for keeping the IJA
politics talk to a bare minimum.

To all my friends (who I'm not even going to try to list) for making the
fest an extra-fabulous experience.

To all the Montreal Crew for putting on a fun (if slap-dash) fest and a
terrific show.

Greg

Re: Montreal fest HLGCB

This was my first Montreal festival and it was a lot of fun. Being out of
school rules - this is my seventh local festival since October!

Highs:

French Canadians - they are all so nice, even when you can't speak their
language.
Seeing so many friends.
Getting to premiere the new version of my balleash routine.
Getting to talk so much with Francis Julien.
Having a GPS with Canadian maps.
David Menes
Hanging out with Emman - he's blowing up people!
Getting so much positive feedback re: my show stuff.
Best juggler-friendly lighting in a show ever!
Pierre
seeing Nico again!!!

Lows:

The main gym feels like a prison.
attendance seemed a bit low
Will there ever be a festival that isn't hurt by car problems? (sorry Sky)
less clowning, more juggling!
my right wrist hurting
not getting to see Gonzalo perform
having to leave so early on Sunday - I could've beat Emman at 5 ring and
6b endurance

Goal:

Do well in the show - check
learn new tricks/techniques - check
invent a new trick - check
meet new awesome people - check
get inspired- check

Crush:

M: David Menes - don't none of you people know about this guy, but you
will.
F: Veronique Provencher - no relation to Ed Provencher, but a good
diabolist and very attractive and nice.

Bane:

BBB - cuz I can't do it.

Surprise:

Seeing BJ. I haven't seen him since X-Treme Juggling at IJA 05. He
showed some of my own tricks back to me which always makes me happy.

Thanks Greg, that really means a lot to me. And thank you again for taking
me to bring Genevieve's handstand pegs back. It was very nice to get a
chance to talk to you.

Cate

PS, I am so way hotter than Warren.
