texas surf contest....

..the Taylor Surfboards Matagorda ProAm finally went off saturday.
surf was small but doable, weather was off and on dense fog. ended up
with a decent set of pics that at least do a good job of showing the
action. some pretty good surfing, mini barrels, and a gem of a 360
buried in the middle.....

Ah yes. Texas surf "going off." Well I must say the kids have heart.
It's quite hard to make foggy thigh high windswell look exciting under
any circumstances.

The crowd (all 5 of them, page 1) looks stoked.

You think if Gleshna simply prefaces all his presentations of gray
photos with the words, "it was foggy" then folks would stop hassling
him about the quality of his photography?

I'll take your word for it. I didn't get past vast page 2.

um "socalex" - whoever you are
yeah, i have my pics on my site, and i watermark them because a few
years ago i had a pic or two hijacked without permission.

its like watching someone kick your dog when you cant do anything about
it. except i havent met a man yet that has the nads to kick my dog in
my presence - and i doubt very seriously that i ever will.. ask anyone
who has met me and get their own opinion.

if you think i am "pimping" you are mistaken. i know no one here would
buy one of my pics, i just post the link to show the stoke of young
texas surfers - you cant deny those guys were going for it.

if i sell a measely 4 or 5 pics to one or 2 people and make $20 to
cover 1/3 of my gas, well, EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE the fuck out of me.

sorry you were offended. next time ignore the link.

ok, i have had by blow up for the year. kindly all fuck

Surfgeo, you don't need to make gas money, and you don't need to sell
pics
for $6.00 apiece of waves so small that the surfer is falling down. (
Hysterical )

You want to make your commercial site known. That's pimping.

Surfgeo's just trying to brag about his new Nissan. :-) ( It sounds
sweet, Surfgeo. ) Cargo racks, sun roof, leather and a stereo doesn't
have anything to do with political correctness. Wouldn't an Escalade or

Check this out,

Remember the whiny, insecure kid in nursery school, the one who always
thought everyone was out to get him, and was always running to the

At least, he did if he was one of 95 kids from the Berkeley area that
social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years. The
confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grew up to be liberals.

How cute. A study done in Berkeley to track kids from moonbat-land. Any
conservative growing up in that area is bound to turn out screwed up. Hell,
I had to get out of that area myself. I couldn't take the daily freaks

That reminds me, what ever happened to those 4 guys

weeks by having babe profiles saying they were going to

Site went down and we lost em!

I'm guessing the car still has big silver NISSAN badges on it.

Unlike 'Jap' - 'Haole' in today's use here does not have to
have negative connotation at all. It is a very common term
used here by local people of all races & ethnicities, mainly
to describe someone who looks Caucasian. Maybe 'Jap' doesn't
have negative connotations where he's from, I don't know.

FWIW, my father & family is as white as they come, born &
raised in the sticks of Idaho. My mother was born and raised
in Osaka Japan.

But you'd be wrong to think I'm thin skinned or sensitive
about these kind of labels. I *do* find DG's well recorded
defense of his use of the term 'Jap' along with his boasting
about his Nissan, hilarious.

Yeah. and the local people here call African-American's "niggers", call
Mexicans, "spics", ....

Bud, what's your point?

I didn't like the first time I was called an "Haole" in 1976 on Oahu and I
do not accept it today.

I am happy for you that it's accepted in your local area to call people
derogatory names. I guess you have some sort of immunity from freely
passing out racial slurs.

Surf Central America.... good waves and good people. That's where real
surfing is. No one is an "Haole" in Centro!

Just trying to relay some facts sarge, but it's your choice to continue
in ignorance, anyway it don't matter much either way.

One more time for you, and I'll type s l o w l y this time.

I would describe myself to another local as half haole (aka 'hapa
haole') because my father is caucasian and my mother is Japanese.
Another example - If my dad was among a group of darker skinned friends
I would point him out as 'the haole guy' over there.

Haole is very very commonly used here to describe nothing more than skin
color/Caucasian looking. JB, you can call me, my kids, my white friends
haole all day long if you like, no one would bat an eye here.

However~! The context could easily make it 100% different. If back in
1976 or today, a large Polynesian male angrily said to you, "HEY YOU
FUCKING HAOLE, GET OFF MY WAVE & GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA YOU FUCKING KOOK"
then yes, it probably was meant as you took it.

Aloooooooha & good surfing to you!

Yeah, and people of color in the south where I grew up could be called
nigger all day long and no one would bat an eye. What's your point? That
you are 40 years behind the times?

If you are sensitive to being called a "Jap" then you need to lose the word
haole from your vocabulary.

ok bud - if i had a "japanese" buddy, and he was standing over near a
bunch of texan friends, and i pointed him out to another friend as
such:

"ya bro, thats my homie - the jap over there with all the haolies"

would that be bad?????

my god, all i ever did was bich that i got "japped" when a shortboarder
looked me in the eyes and dropped in on me - then cut back in frint of
me! a double jap!

the good thing is i plastered his ass with two hard palms to the back,
he lost his board, i rode another 20 yds and laughed at him as he swam
in.

lets see.....after pearl harbor, bataan, guam, iwo jima, okinawa,
midway, kamakazis (not the drink) .. i think my dad, general
mcarthur, admiral nimtz, and my uncles who fought in that theater would
harbor no grudges for me using the word "jap".

not bad company there.

if the nips had won, how many people in AS would be surfing the north
shore or anywhere in HI for that matter??? hmmmmm?

i can only think of one.

use of pejoritives is useful in wartime for dehumanizing the enemy (so
its easier to kill them).
it is also used on the playground for putting down the little kids that
you don't think will fight back in order to boost a needy ego.
imho - being humane is better than being a bigot in many ways.

Tranquilo, bro. Think how freakin' annoying it is to have people call you

And you come from a place with ranches and stuff - imagine how it pisses ME

Anyhow- zap me an email, interesting things have been happening.

I said earlier I am far from being thin skinned about it. Knowing the
connotations, you can call me a Jap if you think I deserve it, JB. It
wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last. Big deal lol

His online labeling history is well documented; My original comment was
giggling at surfgeo's boasting about his new manly truck with Japanese
badges on it.

Now, you are trying to equate the "n" word with haole and I'm trying to
show you that locals use it in daily language without malice. Your
choice to believe it or not, apparently you choose selective reading
comprehension when it comes to my posts; So, after a couple of 3rd party
snippets for you, I'm done here -

http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2002/Mar/24/op/op10a.html
"I'm haole. I was born and raised in Hawai'i and the word does not
bother me unless it is clearly used to degrade someone. Others don't
agree. But haole is a word that is used commonly, is accepted by most
and generally describes Caucasians. We do use the term in the paper, not
often, but usually in a context that describes a unique Hawai'i group."

http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2005/Mar/15/il/il01a.html
"I married a haole boy"

http://tinyurl.com/zzb2h
"If you are "white", do not be upset if someone calls you a haole. The
Hawaiian word "haole" as now used just means "white" or "Caucasian"; it
originally meant foreigner. It does not have a negative connotation in
itself unless used in a derogatory manner (c.f. paleface). Pay attention
to the speaker's tone of voice, not the word."

http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2003/Aug/01/en/en05a.html
""Hapa-haole music has been a very important part of our culture, in the
music and in the hula,"

"In plain talk, hapa-haole songs emerged when composers — smitten with
the tropical paradise that was Hawai'i — wrote about it in English
because they didn't excel in the Hawaiian language"

http://www.squareone.org/Hapa/
"Suddenly, every Tin Pan Alley tunesmith decided to write Hawaiian
songs--with English words, a few words in Hawaiian, and often,
pseudo-Pidgen gibberish. By 1916, there were hundreds of Hapa Haole
(half "foreign") tunes written."

Btw, Bud's right. Haole is *not* a derogatory term.

so if a guy "japs" me, and i kick his ass for "japping" me - is that a
hate crime?

the "hate crime" label is the most ridiculous crap to spew out of

How do you "jap" someone? Do you throw pics of
Japanese people at somebody?
Do you make them stare at a map of Japan for an hour?

Your point is well taken, but it's just a label.

I haven't seen airport security racially profile anyone. From what I've
seen
*everyone* gets checked.
