Surf off the coast of Nigeria?

This is another one of those, "it's not exactly clear why I need to
know this," but, I have discovered an old friend who commutes from
Kabul, Afgahnistan to Nigeria. Why you ask? He is helping with the
reconstruction of both governments. There obviously isn't any surf
around Kabul, but Nigeria has a coastline.

Anyone know anything about it?

Interesting site, but I don't have any faith in its accuracy based on the
descriptions I read about my region. Other than yes there are waves at said
spots, most of the other info is either over stated as in ride length and
quality or totally inaccurate.

I found another link.

From what I've been reading this doesn't seem to be the place I should
go to alone. But I now know exactly where Nigeria is and what's
around it. Surfing is SO educational.

ps. Dave, I can't get any of your posts. So when you respond to a

Heavy duty. Donīt think the waves there would compensate the
hassle/danger. Definitely to be avoided.

Heh, heh. Ah yes, I remember these guys. They were soliciting surfers
to contribute descriptions of their favorite surf spots, for
collection on the web. They posted a request to AS back in about '96.

They put my description of a killer surf spot at Crown Point in
Mission Bay, San Diego online for about 5 years before some real
surfer finally checked their stuff and detected my fraudulent
description. Well, actually there were factual parts: "seldom surfed"
(true- it's not a surfspot), "didn't max out even during the legendary
winter of '69 swell" (true- it has no swell exposure anytime, ever),
is a nature reserve, so leave your dog at home" (true), "is a reeling,
right point of unsurpassed quality when it's on" (not once in the last
hundred thousand years).

Nigeria? No clue. But it's generally infamous for being one of the
very most corrupt nations on Earth. Doesn't sound like a cheap trip to
me. Daresay you won't need a wetsuit there. No doubt any surf you do
find will be uncrowded. Be safe, have fun, take pics, post when you
get back!

Re: Surf off the coast of Nigeria?

When they chop off your arm to get the watch you have to replace
everything. That is the danger of hassle in Nigeria. You have to
replace everything in Nigeria for them to chop off your watch. It is a
hassle.

Friend of mine said that there are waves to be had... and a new road
going along the coast with white sand beaches and plenty of swell...
Just gotta have an armed body guard (no watches).
