NOAA buoys don't show much down there yet. It's bound to pick up as the
storm moves over open water S of the penninsula, but will it wrap around
before it gets big and choppy?

That's actually not an entirely bad track for New England. The NE
quadrant and E semicircle would be throwing swell right at the S coast
(time sensitive):

After it finally moves away and wind gets more favorable? It might be
too close, victory at sea. Maybe some long period swell before the storm
gets past Hatteras...? Lots of questions. Flooding could be bad in the
mid-Atlantic. Any other thoughts?
