Broken Collarbone - Fractured Clavicle - Surf Rehab

Hi I'm a surfer who broke a collarbone last Saturday skateboarding down
a steep hill.
Has any surfer experienced coming back to surfing after a fractured
clavicle?
How long did it take before you got back to 100%?

Thanks,

Ouch!

Buddy of mine busted his clavicle and the radial head in an elbow
skating down COMSAT hill behind Sunset Beach one summer when he was
about 20. Full recovery before the winter season, no problems.

YMMV, of course, depending...

Bust left twice and right once.....
Even had to learn to sorta play tennis right handed...
Back to surfing within a month....full strength maybe 6 months.
Back to motocross in 20 days.... won VetNovice but crashed out of 125
Novice.
Back to windsurfing in 23 days....made every jibe and didn't fall in
in winds 20-32mph.

After 1 month, were you really surfing and catching waves or in rehab
mode ... in the water paddling? Did you wear a figure 8 brace or just
a sling?

Thanks,

Clavicle breaks usually set in under 11 days. You know the instant
you sit up from bed. Give it 2+ weeks of rest, it's easily 80% strong
(the bone), and your muscles have atrophied 40odd %, so you choose a
mellow break, not Wiamea or big OBSF....or big Pipe, eh?
Takes another month or so to get full paddle and popup speed, so it's
healing while you're pumping fresh blood to the injured bones.
You think racing 125 Novice Motocross District 36 is easy on the
shoulders?
Vet Novice is easy, as 30 year olds don't want to tangle and crash.
You just blow past going into the turns.
Gotten two X braces, never had them on by the time I got to my car.
Any doc will tell you really...."ain't noddin they can do" with or
without brace.
Now surgery, that's another story. If you get surgery on a
complicated clav break, LISTEN TO YOUR DOC.
