Key Horse Picks: Wednesday August 24 2005

Good morning, everyone --

I have six picks today, Wednesday August 24 2005. To see them all, just

My Free Picks for today:

Saratoga 7th Race 4:15pm US Eastern Time

Seeking the Ante #1 (ML 3-1) After meeting Grade I horses in her last
three races, this 3-year-old filly, trained by John Kimmel, will get a
break today as she runs against an easier field and at a distance -- 7
furlongs -- that she can handle much better. Seeking the Ante has two
starts at this distance, with one win and one second-place finish. With
the early speed coming from Miss Coronado or from the likely favorite
Jerry Bailey's Pommes Frites, Seeking the Ante should be in a good
stalking position to win this race.

Miss Coronado #6 (ML 4-1) I'm going out on a limb in picking Miss
Coronado. If she wins, we could get a good price. Miss Coronado has
disappointed her backers since she started as a 2-year-old in November
2003. As a 3-year-old, she was predicted to become one of the top
fillies of 2004, Smarty Jones's equal in the world of fillies. But it
hasn't turned out that way. Although she never became the horse she was
expected to be, she's always had the tactical speed to handle
graded-stakes company. In her last race, a turf race, she finished
third losing by only three lengths after being bumped and steadied at
the start.

Today trainer Bobby Frankel brings Miss Coronado back after a
five-week layoff with blinkers added and with the services of jockey
J.R. Velaquez. She could pull an upset in this race.

The likely favorite will be Pommes Frites, who at first glance looks
like the class of the race. However, her best races have been on the
grass. Her one bad race, the Grade I Test, was on the dirt and she
finished seventh, 15 lengths out. She seems doubtful on the dirt today.

Seeking the Ante and Miss Coronado are my Key Horse choices in this
race. If Miss Coronado can win this race, we'll get a big payoff. I
have confidence in her because she has two of the best in her corner,
Frankel and Velazquez. (posted 1045 Aug 24)

Best of luck today and always to everyone. To your Wealth!
